Meet Martin
A graduate trainee who loves a challenge

Martin joined the E.ON Energy Trading graduate trainee program after completing a five-year study of industrial power electronics at Aachen University.
"During my studies I realized I had an affinity for financial issues and technical complexity. So, I took an internship in Argentina with a team that was modelling risks and implementing derived hedging strategies. These experiences encouraged me to look for a job opportunity in this field and I was delighted to be accepted onto the trainee program at E.ON Energy Trading. After talking with several of the team leaders, I decided to make the gas dispatch department my home placement. I’ll join this team during the last third of my traineeship.
For my first placement I joined the portfolio and risk management department in the Middle Office, who were in the process of launching a new invoicing tool for the Nordic portfolio. The Nordic market was new to me. This made me aware of several market specific interdependencies and why different assets have to be invoiced in different ways.
After some orientation days, I was involved in cross-checking and evaluating output figures. In addition, I started to implement an application which will replace the current models in the longer run.
In a few months I’ll move to another department, followed by a sojourn outside E.ON Energy Trading to get closer to technical backgrounds and fundamentals. For the last six-months I will be involved in a project team that is developing a market entry and integration strategy for the Iberian gas market.
E.ON Energy Trading is a very exciting environment and I enjoy the challenges it presents. I have tasks to fulfil in the long term, others in a few days and of course some at short notice. Organizing my own schedule and being responsible for my own output makes my job very attractive."
